Chatham Tea House
Nestled in a valley and bounded by quiet residential regions, the hilly tree—filled campus of Chatham College is a rare find amongst Pittsburgh’s busy urban streets. The campus us an arboretum and many exotic trees and plants beautify the campus. The proposed teahouse will be located at the center of campus, amidst the highest concentration of these plants.
This location offers a serene, peaceful environment for the consumption of tea. The stone walls of the teahouse emerge from the hillside and then fade into the landscape, sheltering the users from the harsh elements of Pittsburgh weather while simultaneously inviting customers into the building.
The tables and chairs are moveable so that many different size groups can be accommodated. Although they are inside, visitors have a solid connection to the outdoors provided by the scent of plants, views of nature, and the sounds of wildlife.
